Lynda Carter Wonder Woman – 1976-1979

I first fell in love with a cuff bracelet back in the mid 1970s. I loved Wonder Woman. No one rocked those bullet-proof metal cuffs like Lynda Carter. Actually, they are called Bracelets of Submission in the comics. I think perhaps I’ll start calling my various cuffs Bracelets of Submission as well … doubting my kids or my husband will submit, but worth a try. I can remember running around the backyard with yellow construction paper cut in strips and taped around my wrists. I could dodge some bullets back in the day. Today however, I still dodge them but with much more fashionable and durable cuffs! I was drawn to them because I have smaller wrists. I longed to wear a stack of bangle bracelets but they were too big and often fell off. The magic of the cuff is that most cuffs are adjustable. A simple squeeze and it stays put, doesn’t swing around, doesn’t make noise! Win, win, win! I also believe a cuff looks good on any shape. You don’t have to have a small or for that matter, large, wrist for it to make a statement. Additionally, only one cuff is needed, especially if it’s two inches or more. If it’s an inch or smaller, then I would experiment with adding a bangle, adding a beaded bracelet, or maybe a wrap bracelet. Keep the number of bracelets to an odd number though. It’s like decorating a table, group things in threes but in this case, I vote three to five.

Cuffs come in so many different varieties. My friend Dawn, owner of Set in Stone, makes the most fabulous cuffs out of druzy and various hides. I think I have four different versions and would buy more if my daughters didn’t tell me to chill on the druzy and hide! Check out Set in Stone on Instagram or Facebook. She can make various sizes, which all snap and are gorgeous! I also have a sterling silver cuff that we bought in St. John several years ago. It has an interesting shape and fits my wrist well. It also reminds me of my girls and my Mom every time I wear it. There is something about a cuff that kind of finishes an outfit. Smaller boutiques around Charlotte tend to carry the most interesting ones. BD Jeffries never disappoints with a leather cuff. They also carry Kirstin Dexter, an amazing jewelry designer who I love. I long to own one of her diamond and leather cuffs. Sloan boutique is another go-to spot for a great cuff or any jewelry for that matter. They have great colors, styles and selections you won’t find anywhere else. Pinterest and Etsy are also worth exploring. Currently, I’m on the hunt for a brown leather cuff with a large turquoise stone. I’ll post a picture when I find it!

Oh by the way, here’s some of my favorites. They make great holiday presents for special women in your life, or if you are like me, buy one for someone and one for yourself! There’s bound to help you both dodge a few bullets.
