Back in the day when we were going to fun parties, I was thrilled to attend a good friend’s son’s bar mitzvah. I bought a beautiful green one shoulder dress and decided these 4-inch Schutz tan suede caged heels were the only shoes that would work with the dress. I hobbled around my hotel room in them and thought, “Maybe with a glass of wine, I’ll loosen up a bit and glide across the dance floor in these shoes.” I barely made it to the Uber to get to the party. It wasn’t that they necessarily hurt my feet. It was more that my foot was not made to walk at a 4-inch angle. I teetered around a bit more during the party and finally sat down – for a long while. Toward the end of the night, I became one of those people who took their shoes off and danced the last hour with my friends and my kids. Sorry Mom, I know you would not have liked that look! But I was happy and felt like I was finally able to enjoy myself. That night I vowed to never buy a pair of beautiful heels that hurt my feet. They may be the perfect look, but if they take away from the very event I am so excited to attend, what’s the point?

I now am on the quest to find the almost high heel. Maybe it’s 2 inches, 3 max. It could have a cute kitten heel, but the flat form, the wedge and the platform craze are what I am perpetuating with every purchase! I want the lift! I walk a little taller and feel a bit more confident with a little extra height. As my teenagers surpass me in height, I feel like I am shrinking. Flats feel flat. So, I’ve compiled a list of Oh by the Way shoes that I’m loving and some that I would like to own. I’m never going to let a pair of shoes keep me from dancing the night away at the next party I go to … whenever that will be!

I have this shoe in a grey suede and also a tobacco-colored leather. It’s an all-time for comfort!
I love my little Loeffler Randal mule in a 2-inch heel. The bow on the toe is so cute and just the right touch. I usually wear these with black pants but really these are a 3 ½-season shoe for just about anything. The animal print shown here is running low on stock, but there’s a gold option that is equally adorable. Originally, I questioned whether it would stay on and be easy to walk in, but I can happily confirm that they are comfy and easy.
Don’t forget a bootie is also a great heel choice. I prefer the “sock” bootie, which hugs your foot and ankle. It just looks a little more hip than a standard black heel. This Stuart Weitzman is on major sale. Scoop it up if they still have your size.
This Steve Madden slide sandal is one I’m seriously considering. It’s a basic staple for your shoe wardrobe. The heel is a good block style, and with a nice pedicure, you can wear these with anything.
Oh man, I love a platform sandal. With the pair I’m liking, you can get a 4-inch heel which makes me feel really tall, but you also get the 1¼-inch platform so actually the heel height is only 2¾”. You get that gorgeous high heel look but you can actually walk and dance! I’m loving this brown pair from Chinese Laundry.
Lastly, when spring comes back around, be sure to try a pair of Marc Fisher Espadrilles. They’ve been around for a couple of years, and I have several pairs, as do my daughters. They are extremely comfortable and look great with a long skirt or maxi dress. You can literally keep these on all day.
