Oh By The Way
Have you ever had something nagging at the back of your mind that you can’t seem to shake? If you’ve ever read Elizabeth Gilbert’s book Big Magic you know what I’m talking about. This blog is that nagging idea. It’s the thing I’ve been brainstorming on walks, in the shower, while putting on my makeup. I’ve dreamed about it. I’ve panicked about going live. I’ve especially worried about being judged because of it. Yet, here it is. I’m overcoming my fears and just doing it because at the age of 50, I finally just want to do things that make me happy despite any critics that might be lurking in the shadows.
The idea of this blog first came about from a special women’s group that I’ve been involved with for eight years. We meet regularly to share our lives with one another, problem solve and push each other to be our best selves, despite our own best efforts to self-sabotage. At the end of each meeting, we started offering what we called, “My Oh by the Way.” This discussion encompasses everything from a favorite restaurant to an interesting podcast. It could also be a bit of knowledge gained after going through a transition like getting your child into college or working through a tough time.
After some reflection, I realized that these “Oh by the Ways” are how many of my friends and I connect. Aren’t we always trying to get a leg up, help each other with problems or find a great pair of pants that look like a million bucks but feel like our favorite baggy sweatpants? I’m excited to start this new journey of sharing all my “Oh by the Ways,” and I look forward to hearing some of yours.
